Ukraine is among the world's top producers of several minerals. Steel manufacturing has been historically a strong sector for the country. Recently, the abundance of titanium has led to new investment in advanced manufacturing and related applications. Advanced machining is growing rapidly in the country due to four factors: a highly educated workforce, low labor costs, an abundance of hard-to-find minerals, and proximity as a central location for export to 3 continents.

The chemical industry is of importance for many of the same reasons as the metallurgy and machinery industries. The proportion of chemicals as a percentage of total exports is around 8%. The industry is comprised of 5,000 companies and produces more than 6,500 products.
